Welcome to the Karate Club.
The Karate Club was established in 1994 by Huw Steiner.
Huw has been teaching Shotokan Karate to both adults and
children for over 17 years and has
reached the grade of 5th Dan (5th
level) Black Belt.
He is also qualified as a Grading
Examiner and competition judge.
All the clubs are part of the Southern
Shotokan Karate Association (SSKA).
The SSKA has over 100 clubs covering
Southern England from Cornwall to
London.
We hold regular gradings every 3 months, which allows students to
progress through the cloured belt ranks towards a Black Belt and Dan
ranks.
Our training is Traditional rather than competitive which means that all
students progress at their own pace, rather than having to feel the need
to “keep up” with others, enabling young students to take part at the
same time as more mature students.
This way of training also help adult students realise that whilst they may
not be as flexible, fast, fit or energetic as a young person, they can still
enjoy the training and progress in their own time and way.
All our clubs are family oriented with some parents taking part with their
children if they want.
Children can start at age 6, 5 if a parent joins in, and our oldest student
is currently in his 60s.
Safety is very important in The Karate Club and all students are taught
to respect others and be aware of other people training.
Nobody want to get injured or hurt, especially as most people have
work or school to go to the next day!
Students are taught from the very first lesson how to judge distances
and act in a way that will not distract others around them.
Many thanks to all the students and friends of The Karate Club for
letting me use their photos and ideas for this website. We are
continually updating the site so some links might not yet be complete.
Please contact us if you have any questions eg venues, class times,
suitability of karate for you or your children etc.
Most people like our clubs but you have to try it and see for yourself.
Thank you
